While diesel-fuel technology is admittedly not as popular here in the U.S. as it is in European or various other overseas markets, it's still a tried-and-true high-gas-mileage achieving powerplant option. And to this end, our favorite automaker, Mazda, has introduced its brand-new SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter clean diesel engine in tandem with its all-new 2014 Mazda6 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The 2014 Mazda6 is the latest and most exquisite new Mazda model to emerge from the brand's KODO design-inspired lineup. The L.A. Show has marked its gas-powered variant's official North American debut and offered a preview of what drivers can expect when the stunning new Mazda6 arrives at U.S. dealerships like Tom Dolan's Reno Mazda, in January 2013.
The SKYACTIV-D diesel version will follow in the second half of the year, and denote Mazda as the first Asian automaker to offer a modern-technology clean-diesel engine in a noncommercial vehicle. What's more, the 2014 Mazda6 will be the first Mazda production vehicle to offer the brand's all-new capacitor-based brake energy regeneration system, i-ELOOP.
According to President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, Jim O'Sullivan, there is much more in store, "As Mazda continues to grow and SKYACTIVTECHNOLOGY continues to offer real-world efficiency and performance, our Los Angeles announcements are only tips of the iceberg. The best is yet come, " he says.1
