In the past few years the vehicles we have here at Reno Mazda have been dawning the powertrains and systems of the brands successful SkyActiv technologies, helping further the many models with better efficiency and drivability.

Now, in their home country of Japan, at the Tokyo Motor Show, Mazda released two concept vehicles that will use all-new SkyActiv technologies.

The first concept is the SkyActiv-CNG Concept, or as it is called in Japan the "Axela."  This concept furthers technology by being the first SkyActiv system to use an all-new compressed natural gas engine.

Using a new Mazda3 as the base, the CNG concept is able to be powered by both natural gas and gasoline, and the brand believes this type of compression system will grow in demand in the near future.

The second concept from the brand also takes a Mazda3 and adds new SkyActiv technology under the hood.  This concept is also a first for the Japanese automaker, as it marks the first hybrid-powertrain for the Japanese automaker.

The SkyActiv-Hybrid pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor that is aided by a nickel-metal hydride battery.  Capable of 134 horsepower, it has been stated this hybrid Mazda3 is only going to be available for the Japanese market at this point in time.

For more exciting news from both the Tokyo Motor Show, and also the LA Auto Show in neighboring California, stay in tune here on our blog.

Hopefully our brand will eventually incorporate these two powertrain technologies in the inventory of new Mazda cars we have serving the entire Reno, Nevada region.  In the meantime come check out the vehicles we have being powered by the current SkyActiv technologies at our dealership located right on the southern boundaries of the Biggest Little City in the World.
