When it comes to planning ahead, automakers have to dedicate a lot of their time to developing the future of their lineups. This is certainly no different for Mazda, as it has been busy these last few months finalizing the changes that its new Mazda models will receive. Luckily we have a sneak preview to share with all of you in the Reno, NV area.
Mazda's initial goal is to have a majority of its lineup outfitted with SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY by the end of 2015. This will help to increase fuel efficiency and reduce vehicle weight. It also plans to make more frequent changes as technologies become available, rather than sticking to its traditional system of performing mid-cycle redesigns or waiting every three years to make any drastic changes.
As far as specific alterations go, the Mazda CX-5 is scheduled to receive a redesigned front fascia and interior sometime in 2014. The Mazda6 is scheduled to receive similar changes only with a more drastic interior redesign that will include the addition of enhanced instrument clusters, gauges and seating.
One of our favorite models, the MX-5 Miata roadster, will undergo a redesign for its 2016 model which is slated for release in early 2015. Its major alteration involves a larger wheelbase being added to its rear-wheel-drive platform. It's quite possible other styling changes will be applied to the model as well, giving it bodylines that are more comparable to a coupe.
This is of course just a sampling of the changes that we can expect to see over the next few years.
