Earlier this year, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) proudly announced that the 2017 Mazda CX-5 had been awarded an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+, which is the institution's highest accolade. This award means that every 2017 Mazda vehicle that has been tested by IIHS and is equipped with both optional front crash prevention and specific headlights has been earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating.
The CX-5 compact crossover SUV has now received a Top Safety Pick+ rating for five straight years, with this year's top scored being credited in part to the vehicle featuring standard Smart City Brake Support and LED headlights.
To earn a Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle is required to earn a good rating in every one of the five IIHS crashworthiness tests, as well as receive an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good rating in headlight tests.
